About the code, I don't know... but I think Shawn Hargreaves spotted a 
bug in it, so... 

About the Cirrus card, I had one (same model as yours) and I have to say 
it is not a *great* card: it seemed to have problems reporting how much 
video memory it has. I had trouble with several games which used Vesa 
modes (and the Univesa emulator), one example I can think of is Simcity. 

Also, these cards seem to have slow palette updates. In games like Doom, 
when the whole palette is updated (screen fade in or out for instance) 
snow appeared at the top of the screen, because the card could not update 
the whole palette in one vertical retrace (btw this happens on other 
cards, the Paradise WD09024, installed on some Compaq laptops, being 
one).
