I see some people here have been looking for MIDI sequencers and 3D
modelers.. I'm working on these right now. They'll be either "Swapware"
like Allegro, GPL'd, or freeware, with source code included. Written with
Allegro, of course.
3D Modeler: Based on Intergraph Microstation, only simpler and less buggy.
I just want it for designing 3D game objects & terrain. Supports up to 8
view windows, can be 2D or 3D, wireframe or any shading/texture-mapped
mode. Will support various formats used by 3D game libraries (Allegro,
Lib3D, etc), raytracers (POV, etc), maybe commercial CADD software (ACAD,
USTN, .DXF, etc).
Status: Interface, load/save, basic drawing commands done.
Wavetable MIDI driver for Allegro (DIGMID): I wrote this to take the place
of crappy FM synth music. Plays back digitized samples of the instruments
at different speeds to change pitch, similar to a GUS or AWE32, only the
mixing is done in software so it works with any old Soundblaster or clone.
Status: Finished and in testing, touching up.
Patch set for Allegro: Shawn Hargreaves and I are putting together a fairly
small (.5 to 2 meg) _freely distributable_ patch set for use with DIGMID,
GUS, AWE32, and any other supported wavetable synth devices. Game
developers can include only the patches used in a game, further reducing
the size. Anyway, we need some good, public domain patches.. any help
would be appreciated.
MIDI sequencer: Well, it's meant to be and easy to use, and cheap (no $1000
keyboards required, and the program is free). I hope this will encourage
Allegro developers to use the MIDI format for music instead of MOD, S3M,
IT, etc. because MIDI is more efficient and flexible.
Status: 0 lines coded :-) I'll start today, honestly!
Linux port of Allegro: I want this badly because win95 is a piece of shit,
but I need to learn more about game programming under Linux. If it hasn't
already been done by the time I finish my other projects, I'll do it.
