First, the suggestion was to use client-side javascript, not java.
Second, I wasn't suggesting we do anything particularly fancy (like speech
output or advanced GUI stuff) -- just an automated multi-file download.
Third, Javascript *is* accessible (as is Java for that matter) for *most*
pc-based web users, given the market share that Netscape & M$ have carved
out.
Last, the target audience for the script is users who are dumb, not blind!
I prototyped such a script this weekend, and it seems to sort of work.
When you load the page containing the script, it opens two additional
browser windows and downloads the csdmpi binary & source zips from simtel.
I still have to work some bugs out (for instance, it leaves the additional
windows open when it exits), but it looks like a viable solution to me.
