Easily. UniVBE >is< VESA 2.0!
VESA is a software thing, as I said before. It interprets a setpixel()
command or similar to a low level hardware write, independent of VESA.

VESA is simply an API for programming video cards - so you don't have to
write a gazillion different drivers.
