At the risk of sounding argumentative (which I am :-) with all respect,
if you want an answer on a pure C (or C++, or Ada) question to remain
strictly within the bounds of the specified language, post to the
appropriate language newsgroup. There are forums specifically dedicated
to providing pure-C solutions for questions asked. This is not one of
them. djgpp is a multi-language programming platform. If a question is
asked here, and a reader honestly feels that switching djgpp-supported
languages is a viable solution, then he should be free to point that
out, without being flamed by language-purists.
Let me add for the record that I did not make the suggestion about
switching to C++ -- that was Adam W. Lee (source: dejanews). I am
perfectly aware that pointers to functions exist in C; in fact I find
that to be a more practical answer in the short term to the question
asked than "learn C++". There is however *nothing* wrong with such an
answer here. The original question was crossposted to comp.lang.c: that
is the correct place to ask for and recieve C-specific answers, and the
original poster was apparently well aware of this. Crossposting to
comp.djgpp as well means you can expect some replies not to fall within
the charter of C language forums. Please try and remember this in the
future as you flame yet another person who suggests "Use language Z".
