I doubt it was the complete output. But then again, somebody might tell
him that 
 1. gcc doesn't produce .OBJ files, but .o
 2. The hello.o is deleted after linking
 3. The default output file name is a.out, hmm. a.exe
 4. gcc -o hello.exe hello.c  
    will do the trick.
