Neither. I'm afraid the FAQ is wrong in this case. What you should do is get
the DJCRX package and unzip it, then get the official GNU Binutils and GCC
source distributions from ftp.gnu.org or a mirror. See the recent thread
"Compiling to DOS binaries through Linux".

Yes, although if you use a recent version you're less likely to encounter
GCC bugs, and will probably get better optimization.
