Well, your code looks fine to me now. The only thing I can think is to
try using various different drivers and video modes instead of just
letting it autodetect, to hopefully figure out exactly what is causing
the problem. Also, have you seen similar crashes with any other Allegro
programs? (pretty much everything sets the palette, so I would expect
you to see this in other places as well).
