I am trying to open an existing binary file for read/write, so I open it
like:

   fstream f(filename, ios::in | ios::out | ios::binary | ios::ate);

and no matter what, it always truncates - how to stop this? I need to use
what is in the $%^ing file.... :)

thanks in advance... please reply to me directly at:
