No, it isn't true. However, the correct answer will depend on your
definition of "exist".

Nope, this isn't true either. You could also re-write it using the
"complicated" slang library if you so wished. Or, you use the conio wrapper
for curses which makes it easier for people who use DOS specific console
functions in a Un*x environment.
