Well, maybe he programs for a religious group.
I know some guy who hired OO guys for the 700 club.
And I have had the same problem myself.  gotoxy doesn't
work for DOS either.  I had to draw out letters, numbers,
and symbols by hand then use allegro and some tactical blitting.
  They didn't come out bad either.  If I was to do it again,
I'd probably snap em in via video digitilizer, I hate wasting time
making art :P
