This wouldn't be the first thing to try, but my experiences with patch 2.4
and 2.5 are that they both suck big time.  Constantly dump core and whatnot
on hpux.  There is a beta patch 2.5.3 sitting on the gnu beta server (don't
know address, check deja news for gnu.utils.bug from about february of this
year) that works great.  You'd have to build it yourself though.
