Hmmm... I don't think so, but I think your problem is related to the fact that 
you aren't using projects. RHIDE 1.4 have some bugs when handling files without 
projects (in fact almost all the RHIDE versions had some problems with it) so 
use projects:

1) Project|Open
2) give a name
3) Insert the sources in the project window.

Now Ctrl+F9 should work
