I doubt it. Perhaps he meant to say that pentium optimized code runs slower on a 486 sometimes. But pgcc can optimize and target 486, pentium, pentium pro/pII, k5, k6, and cyrix m?. PGCC optimizing for a 486 should beat out stock gcc everytime. Andy
