Been there, done that...

Did you compile the "setup" utility? You'll need it. Compile it, run it and
choose to specify your digital card settings. My SB Live Value card is set
at SB16, quality 1, freq 22727, port 220, IRQ5, DMA 5. For a MIDI device,
choose the MPU at default settings. AWE doesn't work. Try tinkering around
with the settings and use the test to make sure you don't get the static.
Save and keep the generated "ALLEGRO.CFG" and put it with your compied
program. SB16 support is horrible, and the updated windows drivers don't do
a thing.

Next, open the file CHANGES in Allegro directory and do a search on "Live".
This will tell you why support is so bad.
