If the original poster reads the news group via its email gateway (as
I suspect he does), then the Reply-to header is added by the gateway
software, even if your mailer doesn't.

No, you should never do that.  Doing that will cause your message to
appear twice.

This news group *does* have a FAQ, and it does NOT tell you to post
twice, precisely because it's wrong to do that.  Having a gateway
means that everybody posts by whatever way is convenient to them, and
all the others see it, only once.  See section 20.2 of the FAQ for
more details.
