I have removable hard drive bays ($13 USA each) and keep a Linux drive
separate from my NT and Win98 drives.  But not very many people will
do what you just suggested to their nice new computer just bought from
CompUSA, Fry's, Dell, or Compaq.  Us programmer types, sure.  But not
most people.  (I guarantee my neighbors would jokingly rather slit
their own throats, than format their hard disk just after they bought
their new computer.)
