Well, he did do that:

If that's the case, he'll need to delete everything
and reinstall to get the LFNs, SFNs, and upper/lowercase
correct.

It probably would've taken forever to install DJGPP with
DOSLFN active under a real-mode DOS...  So, you might
be correct about him botching his install.  You really need
a DOS console like in Windows 98/SE to install quickly.

Unfortunately, I installed just about everything with v2.03.
With v2.04, I installed much less.

The DJGPP "manifest" directory shows what .zip files were
extracted lists these for v2.04:   (as .mft or .dsm or .ver)

My v2.04 sources directory has these files also:

If he's interested in just copying the required directories from a
good, complete install of DJGPP from another machine, say Win XP,
then he can read this old post of mine.  E.g., he could use pkzip
etc to archive the required directories and extract on his machine.

Seriously, I don't know what you mean by that.  I've been using
DOSLFN 0.32o with MS-DOS v7.10 and DJGPP v2.03 without any issues
for many, many years.  Zero.  It's the last version by Henrik
Haftmann before Jason Hood took over updates.  I have more recent
versions by Jason, but I haven't needed them...  So, he shouldn't
either.  I did experience problems with versions prior to 0.32o.

Perhaps, the brand or quality of DOS used is an issue?  Or, maybe
it's the version of DJGPP being used?  I.e., I've run into a variety
of problems with DJGPP v2.04 with MS-DOS v7.10.  Unfortunately, I
didn't bother to catalog these as v2.03 was my main install.  I just
avoid using v2.04.  Although, DJGPP v2.04 seems to work good in
a DOS console under Windows.  But, I've experienced enough issues
with it with real-mode MS-DOS v7.10, that I wouldn't trust it,
unless it was being executed under Windows or perhaps Linux.
Of course, I haven't updated v2.03 since 2005 and v2.04 since 2006.
